Is it Biodiesel having methanol?how to find the STANDARD METHOD to detect methanol from it by GC?Thks.?
Recently,I m doing a laboratoty testing to detect the methanol concentration in Biodiesel by using Gas Chromatography.
My I know is it Biodiesel contains methanol compound by itself?If so,how to find out the STANDARD METHOD to detect the concentration of methanol in it?
A STANDARD METHOD including the sample preparation, GC column n temperature,n it’s data and graph and etc.
It is because our final purpose is to establish a SENCOR for testing methanol in Biodiesel and make a comparition with GC data.Do anyone have an idea?

Methanol is so light and small that it is very hard to detect by GC. Biodiesel is probably much heavier. I would not try and use GC as a method to test this. It is really not practical. Finding an oven range that would detect both cleanly is frankly not very reasonable.
The person above is correct. Evaporation and weighing is a much more practical way of seeing how much methanol is in the sample.
